We took our time leaving LA to enable us to see our dear friends just returning from a summer in Europe. Despite their jetlag, they wanted to meet Ella, so we stopped by on our way out. Because of this little pit stop, we knew we wouldn't make it all the way up to San Jose. Instead, we took our time driving the coastal road deciding to stop somewhere around Santa Barbara.

| Ella just had to have a double double at a pit stop. |

This is how we found the beach camp in the cute little town of Carpinteria. After catching the sunset on the beach, we decided to walk to downtown to find some dinner. Inspired to find seafood, we ended up stopping at a vintage-inspired restaurant called Sly's. After a couple "laps" walking Ella around, she settled into a nice nap on Jason's chest, and we were able to enjoy a quiet dinner of avocado stuffed with crab, seabass, steak and asparagus. Apple crisp and coconut cake for dessert. Yum.

The next day we resumed our trip reaching San Jose in time for dinner with friends. On the way we swung through Pinnacles, a new national park in a pretty setting in central California. Honestly, there wasn't much to see from the road, just a short drive into a campground with a pool. Hooray, another national park stamp!
