Hot in Joshua Tree

From Jerome, we set out for Joshua Tree National Park as a midway point to LA. Along the way, we loved the changing desert landscape, from forests of saguaro cacti to piles of boulders and fluffy trees.

We arrived as the sun was setting and got to a campground, where unfortunately (for us) there were no hookups and we weren't allowed to use our generator for AC. That's normally not a problem, but as it was close to 100 degrees with no breeze, we had to settle in for a hot night. All of us had trouble sleeping that night, and as dawn approached we decided to set out early to drive through the whole park to see it well. We're glad we did!

We turned on some trance music (Ella seems to be comforted by STS9, interestingly) and understood why some people find this park to be a spiritual place - the vastness, the seemingly trite piles of rocks that grow to piles of 40-foot boulders as you get closer, the alien-looking trees, add up to an area that seems out of place.

As we exited on our way to LA, Ella picked up her second national park stamp. The epic journey continues!
