One thing that's so special about this trip is seeing Ella change even from day to day. She's developing so much and so quickly. She's opening her hands more, smiling often, "talking" to us and to shadows on the wall, and we got a few delighted squeals (not quite laughs yet). She was sitting on Kate's lap when we heard the pitter patter of rain on the top of the RV. She had a look of wonder on her face as she relaxed into a slight open mouth smile, put her head back and closed her eyes just breathing.
The rain came in the evening we left the Grand Canyon and headed southwest. During the drive across a wide valley, a series of storms during sunset made for a gorgeous show! We saw a red-orange glow and sunrays through storm clouds in multiple directions at once. Our photos couldn't nearly capture it, but we tried anyway.
We stayed in the mountains that night, then checked out the town of Jerome the next day. It's a quirky little town cut into a mountainside, where we tasted wine, had great BBQ, and discovered that of all places, Maynard James Keenan (the frontman of bands Tool and A Perfect Circle, of which Kate is a fan) has a shop and winery there!
Now, on to Cali and Joshua Tree!
