Of Fish and Ferries

Seattle at night from the Ferry Port.
After a few days of nature, we were looking forward to another visit with friends in Seattle. Also, Jason and Ella had never been there before.

One tricky thing about driving the rv in cities is the lack of available parking. So, at the suggestion of our friend Mia, we checked out a state park campground on Bainbridge Island. Fey Bainbridge turned out to be one of those great finds that had the added bonus of great views and a ferry ride for our day in the city.

We got up the next day and headed out to the ferry station. There were no lyfts on the island, so we needed to go the old call-a-taxi-to-pick-us-up route. Luckily, the taxi was efficient, nice, and the driver was friendly. We arrived at the ferry station at the right time and boarded the boat. It was a really nice boat with excellent views of the surrounding area.

With limited time when we arrived in Seattle, we decided to grab lunch by Pike Place Market. Kate's initial idea of going to the chowder place was dampened by the line, but we found Seatown Seabar and sat down for a truly nice lunch outside. Pike's Place buskers contributed an ambience with an accordion, which changed over to reggae midway through the meal (a seamless transition it was not).

As we were finishing up lunch, Kate's friend Kirsten from Peace Corps met up with us for a walk through the lovely market area. We did a little shopping and decided to show Ella how big the fish could get.

After heading through the market, we took an obligatory photo outside of the original Starbucks, then continued past the long line to a place across from the art museum to get better Seattle coffee at Fonté, taking time to catch up.

The Original! We stopped at Starbucks a dozen times through our trip.
Another Peace Corps friend, Mia, was meeting up with us around 4:30. She also had a baby this year, and we were looking forward to getting the little ones together. Kirsten invited us to her house for a baby party. We decided to order pizza and relax there.

Baby party!
After an excellent evening, we took the ferry back to camp. We were set to take the ferry again the next day, but this time with the entire rv! The adventure continues.
